WWE Notes, Week ending August 26

The Crowd in Quebec City is very loud and insane.

**RAW — Sami Zayne is out to open the show. (I am reading that WWEW is allowing Sami/Kevin to get healthy to defend the tag titles. I am not sure how long before Kevin is back) Guess who showed up to support Sami against Judgement Day, Kevin Owens. Once again Sami/Kevin defeated Judgement Day

At this point, the only possible match for Payback is Trish Stratus/Becky Lynch in a steel cage.

In 18 days Gunther will pass Honkey Tonk Man as the longest reigning Intercontentional Champion. I can’t see Chad Gable winning but stranger things have happened. Chad won on a countout. Gunther is irate. Gunther keeping the belt.

Raquel just took Rhea out, Raquel has been cleared for a match at Payback for the RAW Women’s Title.

**NXT

Heatwave taking place. Not sure how many titles are on the line. One match that I am interested in is the Lyra/Dragon Lee facing Dom/Rhea. Thanks to Raquel Rodreguez, Dom/Rhea lost the match

****Our condolences to the Family of Terry Funk at the news of his passing

****I am in shock that I am writing this. It is August 25th here in Australia, I live in South Australia and woke to the news that Windham Rotunda, better known as “Bray Wyatt” has passed away. He was just 36 years old. Our condolences to the family during this difficult time.

**Smackdown Live

I know there are matches listed for today but with the passing of Terry Funk/Bray Wyatt, I am not sure of how the show will play out.

(Bray use to scare the crap out of me but that is a sign of a good character. I am still stunned that he is gone. Grateful for the time we had him)

The locker room is on the runway, the Universe is standing shining their phone lights, The ringing of the bell, 10 times is the most eerie thing to hear. The universe just started singing “He’s got the whole world” They went into a commercial with a single light over Bray’s rocking chair.

As they say, the show must go on. The opening match is Rey Mysterio facing Grayson Waller. Rey is wearing an armband with the initials of Terry Funk/Bray Wyatt. Rey defends the United States title at Payback when he faces Austin Theory.

Cody Rhodes is out to chat about the matches that his Dad Dusty had with Terry Funk.

Cody announced that the match between the Brawling Brutes/Street Profits is a Terry Funk Hard Core Match.

L.A. Knight breaking the 4th wall. Putting a bit of his character aside to honour Bray, L. A talked about how Bray helped him. The new match announced will see L.A Knight facing The Miz at Payback.

I am sending out extra grace as we are all trying to come to terms with the events of the past week.

WWE Notes Week Ending August 19

**There was not much on RAW this week, to be honest. The show started and ended with Judgement Day. The only real news is that Becky Lynch/Trish Stratus will meet again in a Steal Cage. The match moved through the crowd and into the lobby. Hubby Phil said to watch out for Zoey Stark, sure enough, he was right. Zoey showed up in a black sweatshirt/black jeans. You can see that there are cracks in Judgement Day. (Rumour alert — Finn will leave Judgement Day, forming his own faction)

**NXT — September 30th is NO Mercy. Rhea/Dom facing Dragon Lee/Lyra Valkyria in a mixed tag team. It should be an interesting card for Heatwave next week. Wes Lee facing Carmello at Heatwave next week.

**Smackdown — Celebrating Edge 25th anniversary in WWE. He will be facing Sheamus in a match tonight requested by Edge. Rumours are this is his retirement match but I can’t confirm that. Here comes a feud between L.A. Knight/The Miz

No Bloodline storyline this week, which I am actually glad for.

Smackdown celebrated Edge’s 25th anniversary of being in the WWE. He had a match with Sheamus, which he had never had. I did see off-air footage that Edge did say good bye. Not sure what he will do next. (Rumour has it he could head to AEW to join up with Christian.)

WWE Notes — Week ending August 12

**Buddy Murphy/Rhea Ripley have announced their engagement on Rhea’s Instagram

**RAW — Bobby Rude has retired from in-ring wrestling, he has become a producer.

*Ronda Rousey has departed from WWE

*Kofi Kingston returned to join Xavier Woods in a tag team match, defeating The Viking Raiders. (Doctors have advised Big E that he should retire from in-ring performing.

*The handshake/hug from Brock to Cody post-match was a break of character. In Brock’s career in MMA/WWE, Brock has never offered any kind of acknowledgement to any opponent he has faced. (Hubby Phil and I both teared up, what a show of respect)

*It is being reported that Roman was injured at SummerSlam. No report of what the injury is. The Jimmy/Jey storyline is to extend things to get to Wrestlemania (saw in an interview with the Uso Twins, that it is a dream to have a storyline facing each other). (You know the movie, Never Ending Story, well this feels like the never-ending storyline. Someone please end it, the sooner the better. 3 years is too long in my book. (WWE had a rule that all titles were defended once every 30 days, what happened to that?) Look for the first match with the Twins to possibly be at Payback.

Shinsuke has done a heal turn. Looks like he may be coming after Seth if by the events the end of the tag team match with Cody is anything.

**NXT

Lyra Valkyria called Rhea Ripley out for continuing to interfere with Dirty Dom. At the conclusion of the match as Rhea had once again interfered, Rhea had gotten in Rey’s face, poking his chest, screaming something. Lyra grabbed Rhea, laying her out. Rhea had no clue what hit her. Never seen Lyra that aggressive. (Been reading that a possible twist is that Finn leaves Judgement Day, and brings Lyra in with him to counter Rhea)

**Smackdown

Kevin Patrick has joined Corey Graves/Michael Cole at the announce table. They have paired Kevin with Michael to help him with his skills.

Austin Theory did everything he could to take out Santos Escobar, so Theory could keep the belt. Just as he thought he was safe, Rey Mysterio stepped into the match. beating Theory. (I had read that the United States belt was going to be taken off him, it was getting too old)( I am actually glad the belt has changed hands. It’s time for some respect to be restored to it)

The never-ending bloodline story continues, with Roman along with Solo/Paul coming to the ring. Once again, Roman pits Jey against Jimmy. (building the storyline for a battle between Jimmy and Jey) Jey takes out the Bloodline, announcing that he is out.

SummerSlam 2023

Tonight’s show is from Ford Field in Detroit. Home of the NFL Detriot Lions

**Match 1 — Ricochet facing Logan Paul. I can’t stand the attitude or anything else about Logan. When Logan brought in Ricochet’s partner Samantha Irvin, that was it. I am surprised how well, Logan has got the basics but this is a world he has no place being a part of. Will see what happens. (This match was first so Logan could fly to Vegas to watch his brother fight) It’s been an interesting match, I am having to pay attention so I don’t miss anything. Thanks to a pair of brass knuckles, Logan steals the win. (Logan Paul has just become a heel in my book)

**Match 2 — The first of 4 Main Events tonight with Cody Rhodes facing Brock Lesner. This match will not be for the faint of heart. (I really wish Brock would go away after this). Cody is making his entrance, and the Universe started singing his theme song, I got goosebumps. Cody’s first SummerSlam in 8 years. I am such a Cody fan but Brock can be a nasty piece of work, who in my opinion needs to leave WWE, never to return. I have no clue where Cody has found the next gear but there is still plenty of fight left. The Universe has helped Cody to get back in this match. Cody just put a kamora on Brock, I have no clue how. After 3 Crossroads, Cody wins. That was a hell of a match. OMG, Brock took off his gloves and offered his hand for a handshake to Cody. I have NEVER seen Brock do that to anyone. (no clue if that was planned or if Brock did that all on his own but what a sign of respect on Brock’s part)

**Match 3 — Battle Royal. Omas was the final entrant. This could be a joke if he wins. It took everyone to finally get rid of Omas. The rumour was L.A. Knight would win. Well, to no surprise he did. Not really impressed by this match. It was because of this match, that Becky/Trish was bumped along with Rhea/Raquel.

**Match 4 — MMA Rules match, with Ronda Rousey facing Shayna Bayzler. I have hated Rhonda being in the WWE. She never really earned anything, it was all handed to her. Shayna has at least been around, paying her dues. I don’t like her much but I hope today that Shayna makes Rhonda tap out. The only way to win is to knock out or submit your opponent. Shayna got the win due to a knockout.

59,194 in attendance at For Field tonight for the show

**Match 5 — The Intercontentional Title on the line when Drew McIntyre goes to war with Gunther. (Question — will Gunther’s sidekicks be banned from ringside or will they show up at some point) It has been 13 years since Drew has held the Intercontentional Title. Gunther looks so awkward jumping off the top rope. Gunther manages to survive but they have both taken a beating. It was a good match, they let it happen without interference from outside.

Payback will take place on September 2 in Pittsburgh.

**Match 6 — Seth Rollin going to war against Finn Balor for the Heavyweight Title. (IMO – They could take the title off Seth so he can have a break to get healed. Seth did share in an interview that his back is playing up. His surgically repaired knee is also giving him issues) Damien Priest has the M.I.T.B briefcase which could also come into play today. The question is would Damien be spiteful enough to cash in, screwing Finn? If Damien did cash in would that move blow up Judgement Day? Well, as expected, Judgement Day showed up, trying to help Finn take the belt. In the end, it was a stomp on the briefcase giving Seth the win but you should have seen the look from Finn to Damien. You know the saying “If looks could kill. . . “

**Match 7 — Charlotte/Asuka/Bianca in a triple threat match for the Smackdown Women’s title. No champion’s advantage tonight. As Hubby Phil said as Asuka came out, need to watch for the evil dye spray to steal another win. I have to admit I got kind of bored with the match at times. Phil called it as Asuka appeared she nailed Charlotte with the aqua-coloured mist. Bianca with the pin Asuka for the win but it was short-lived as Iyo Sky appeared with the M.I.T.B briefcase to cash it in becoming the new Smackdown Women’s Champion. (That is a prime lesson in how you cash in the briefcase if you have it in your possession.

**Match 8 — One more War between Roman and Jey for the Smackdown Men title (Universal title). Solo Sikoa is not with Roman /Paul at this point. Anything can happen in this match but it’s all legal with a No Disqualification match. Roman takes the “Im better than you ” as he usually does approach. Jey has been out there, working, training each week, compared to Roman who has barely had a match since the last PPV. This match is too quiet, the crowd is trying to rally Jey but Roman is going back to the usual stuff, Superman punch got Roman a beating with a kendo stick. Jey took a chair to Roman but you can hear Paul Heyman screaming at Jey to please stop. This match has had its moments for both Jey/Roman to shine. The crowd needs to get back in this match, the sooner the better. Roman with a table in the ring for the first time. Jey puts Roman through the table from the apron. Come on Jey, finish this. Well, Solo Sokia finally showed up, turning this match on its head. ( Are they really going to leave Jey alone to face this? ) (this match is going to bomb out, how can Creative let this happen about everything) Just as I finished writing that statement, Solo was speared by Roman. This has been a real twist, Solo was screaming at Roman, as Jey speared him. Jey was about to pin Roman/ Jimmy pulled him out of the ring. I am stunned, even Phil is speechless. Roman just speared Jey through the table getting the win.

I have no clue what just happened. Phil commented on what a waste of time that was.

My match of the night is the Seth/Finn match. Also will have another look at the Brock/Cody match.

See you on Tuesday for RAW

SummerSlam — Going Home Shows

Going Home shows are the final RAW/Smackdown that gives matches a final run to tell their story, and create further ankst between wrestlers.

The matches between Trish Stratus/Becky Lynch along with Raquel Rodriguez/Rhea Ripley have been bumped due to the Battle Royal. The Trish/Becky match will take place in 2 weeks on RAW. I am hearing that the Raquel/Rhea match will take place at Payback. Rumour has it that Creative wants to build more of a storyline.

Ricochet/Logan Paul — I am no fan of Paul’s. End of story. Ricochet needs to shut him up once and for all.

Gunther/Drew — for the Intercontentional Belt. Gunther is rattled, thanks to Drew. It’s time the belt changes hands.

Seth Rollins/Finn Balor — This match will be hell, could be the match of the night next to Roman/Jey. The question will be if Damien gets involved, stealing the title from Finn.

Cody Rhodes/Brock Lesner — I have no clue what anyone sees in this match. I just don’t understand why Brock is even still around. Have watched him break so many bones and all.

Jey Uso beats Solo Sokoa in a last-minute match to make sure that Jey does not make it to SummerSlam

Preview of the Asuka/Charlotte/Bianca Belair match

United States Title to be defended in Calgary on next weeks Smackdown

I just want to take a minute to say “Thanks” for taking this trip with me. I am excited to see what will happen tomorrow at the show. I have read some leaks about what might happen but be prepared for the unexpected, especially with the biggest show of the summer.

SummerSlam Part 4

Thanks for joining me for part 4 of my series. What I am sharing with you are my thoughts, rumours of what I have read. It can be the best show yet but they need to book the card correctly.

**Jey Uso/Roman for the Smackdown Men’s Belt. It’s a no-DQ match. Anything and everything will happen I am sure. the mind games are still going on as I am watching the new edition of Smackdown. The Universe in attendance is fully backing Jey. This match will be the main event. Roman is playing head games blaming Jey for Jimmy being hurt and all. Roman tells Jey that he can’t beat him but as Jey said, I already did.

**United States Title — It is time for the title to change hands. It has been boring with Austin holding the belt, the match with John Cena at Wrestlemania was a joke. Very rarely has Austin defended the bet without a cheat move. The final for the #1 contender is Rey Mysterio/Santos Escobar. Rumour is that Santos is starting to get a push. In my book, IF Santos gets the win, I am hoping that he takes the belt. Rey was injured and called the Doctor to ringside. The Ref has called the match, giving Santos the win. Santos has beaten Austin before, have a good feeling that it will happen again.

**Charlotte/Bianca Belair facing Chelsea/Sonya. I am still unsure why they put the belts on Chelsea/Sonya. Rumours had been to free up Raquel to face Rhea at SummerSlam. Still waiting for that match to be made official.

**Micheal Cole just broke the news of a Battle Royal at SummerSlam.

**SIDE NOTE — Who is tired of Karron Kross? You can see he keeps slipping down the card. Becoming the resident bully, no storyline, no nothing. It’s time for him to go in my book. He Karron is not booked for SummerSlam unless he makes the Battle Royal but I can’t see that happening.

**Jey Uso facing Grayson Waller. Grayson has the nack of running his mouth, so full of himself. (he plays the part well when you can’t stand him) Of course, Roman has to show up, odds are that he will go after Jey to make sure he is not 100% at SummerSlam. I told you, Solo pulled an ambush. You should know by now when Solo is taped up, it’s not good. Jey just speared Roman once again. Roman is losing the plot, Roman with a spear, Solo with a spike. I am begging whoever, to end this storyline now. I am so done with it.

There was not much on RAW this week for me to get you updated. Next week is what they call the “going home shows” The final set up of Feuds, final trash talking along with last minutes confirmation of matches.

Dirty Dom has to go to the Great American Bash to defend the North American Title in a triple-threat match. I really hope they take it off him, it needs to remain in NXT.

SummerSlam Thoughts Part 3

Matches confirmed so far are the following:

  1. Seth Rollins facing Finn Balor for the Raw Men’s Title
  2. Asuka/Charlotte/Bianca Belair for the Smackdown Women’s Title
  3. Ronda Rousey facing Shayna Baszler
  4. Becky Lynch going against Trish Stratus (Zoey Stark)
  5. Cody Rhodes facing Brock Lesnar in their 3 match.
  6. Austin Theory will be defending the United States Title against the winner of Santos Escobar/Rey Mysterio for the right to face Austin Theory. (Rumours are starting to make the round that it could go either way. Santos looks like he is getting a push) Theory in a match with Escobar, claiming he was disrespected.
  7. Dom defending the North American Title against Butch. I don’t think he will have the title long. Wes Lee has a rematch waiting. Great American Bash is in a couple of weeks, if Dom still has the belt, he has to go. Rumors are running at the time of this writing, that it could be Rhea that loses the belt for Dom.
  8. Jey Uso facing Roman for the Smackdown Men’s Title. (Universal) Tribal Combat (No Disqualification) Roman signed the contract but Jey tore it up. (WHY is Paul Heyman STILL carrying the unified titles when they are no longer acknowledged.) No clue why but Solo tried to spike Jey, Roman stopped him only to watch Jey superkick Solo. Reading that Roman could lose the belt thanks to Solo or the Twin’s Dad Rikishi

My thoughts on SummerSlam Pt2

Yes, I know these are storylines but it’s also my opinion on what I think about things.

**Brock Lesnar/Cody Rhodes — I can’t wait for this feud to end. Brock really needs to leave, I don’t know about anyone else but I am so over Brock doing what he pleases. I really want Cody to face Roman, taking the title from him. I would have loved to see a Brock/Braun Strowman match again. This match is now set for SummerSlam

**M.I.T.B briefcases — I have been reading that one will be successful and one will not.

**Matt Riddle/Gunther — It was great to see Gunther not have it all his own way. With Ludwig/Vicci barred from ringside, it was actually a decent match. I can’t wait to see Drew take it to Gunther, it’s time he was brought down a few pegs. Gunther is very good, I am taking nothing away from him, I just feel like he has not had a good feud since he was called up, or he just walked all over anyone who had a match with him. (he plays the part well when you dislike a character, that usually means he or she is doing their job)

**They just took the Women’s Tag belts off Liv/Raquel. Have been reading that Raquel will face Rhea at SummerSlam. This could be the way to set up the storyline, only 2 weeks till the party of the Summer. (Provided that the powers that be give the match it deserves it should be a good hard match, it’s time Rhea loses the belt anyway because she has done nothing to promote the Women’s division, she barely defends the title or they get the matchup wrong. Rhea is too busy with Dirty Dom to give the Women’s Division the respect that is needed when you hold the belt.

**Becky Lynch / Trish Stratus at SummerSlam. It’s getting a little old but has been enjoyable. Zoey playing the heal which I was not surprised, she played one at NXT. Becky can hold her own but it’s time for Trish to be put in her place. Becky had a match with Zoey for next week, she has to beat Zoey to get to Trish. Well, they are set to meet at SummerSlam so you know she will win.

My thoughts on SummerSlam

Instead of sharing about the matches on the shows for the week, I decided to look at the matches for Summerslam, giving you my thoughts on how things are shaping up for the biggest party of the summer.

Bianca Belair/Asuka/Charlotte — Triple threat match for the Women’s Smackdown Title. This could go any number of ways, with the belt going to any one of them. Is this a chance to get Bianca freshened up a bit, keeping the belt on Asuka as she is possibly heading for retirement at some point so it’s one last title run for her? Charlotte is still looking great, in better shape than ever. I think Charlotte still has time. (Tonight is Bianca facing Asuka, (watch the mist) they need to be careful how they take this) Well, the title is protected until SummerSlam. It was Bayley who copped the blue mist.

There is an invitational for the United States’ #1 contender for SummerSlam. Greyson Waller is one of the guys taking part. It’s too soon to put the title on him, from one heel to another. The title is barely getting defended when it is Austin Theory finding a way to steal the win if anyone is getting close to beating him. In my book, it’s gotten boring with him still having the belt. Waller just got cleared to compete, he has not paid his dues (so to speak) in my book.

**UPDATE — Jimmy Uso has ruptured rib cartilage from the events of last week on Smackdown and will be out for the foreseeable future. Per Michael Cole. This leaves Jey on his own to deal with Roman. Rumours are that the main event of SummerSlam will be Jey facing Roman, but they need to take Solo Sokota out of the equation to make it the match it deserves. Putting the belt on the line? I am reading it could happen, with Jey ending it all by winning.

Rhea Ripley facing Raquel Rodriguez for the Raw Women’s Title. I am reading that a lot of fans are tired of Rhea being the bully, spending way too much time with Judgement Day. When she does defend the title it’s as a heel/bully with the match a total waste of time. The recent match with Natalya was the best have seen from her for weeks on end. It’s not good enough. Her job is to help promote the Women’s division not to be helping Dom steal wins, (he is big enough, ugly enough to win on his own). Rhea needs a real wake-up call, by taking the belt off her, that would do it. Enough of Judgement Day, let’s just blow it up already.

Fallout from M.I.T.B on RAW

Our condolences to the Family of Darren “Droz” Drozdov at the news of his passing.

Happy 4th of July from Australia

I decided to enjoy the show instead of blogging it. I am glad I did, I usually miss a lot but it was great to enjoy it. I was surprised by a few things that took place, now it’s waiting to see how things play out on the way to SummerSlam.

RAW opens with a recap of Money in the Bank.

Seth is out to open the show. Finn really took it to Seth. With Damien Priest holding the Briefcase, Seth has a real target on his back. I am not sure that Finn is finished with Seth. The question is this, with Damien holding the case/Finn’s loss will this tear apart the Judgement Day?

Cody Rhodes is joining Seth in the ring. Brock Lesnar just showed up (possibly set up for a match at Summerslam) Cody hit Brock with a “Codycutter” and Brock retreated.

Seth was back in the ring but there was NO Finn. Damien is facing Shinsuke, but let’s see if Dom-Dom/Rhea hangs around. Dom has a match with Seth/Rhea is defending the RAW Women’s belt for a change.

Ronda Rousey on the way to the ring, let’s see what happened at M.I.T.B. Here comes Shayna out before Ronda even got a word out.

#1 contenders match for the right to face Raquel/Liv for the tag team belts. Chelsea Green/Sonya Deville, Nikki Cross/Emma, Kayden Carter/Katana Chance, Indi Hartwell/Candice LeRae, and Tegan Knox/Dana Brooks Green/Deville start facing Carter/Chance. The winner moves on to Green/Deville to face Kikki Cross/Emma. Deville/Green move on to Tegan Knox/Dana Brooks. Deville/Green now facing Carter/Chance. I have no clue how but Green/Deville manages to steal the win.

Natalya got a second shot at Rhea Ripley/Women’s RAW title. It was actually nice to see Rhea have to really work to hold on to the belt. Raquel/Liv came out to assist Nattie post match. I can see Rhea/Raquel going for the RAW women’s belt at Wrestlemania.

Seth facing Dom in singles action but Damien/Rhea is at ringside. I can see this not going right. Well, it didn’t Damien inferred, taking it to Seth, with the result of cashing in the Briefcase but it was Finn who finally showed up, putting a stop to it. As Damien/Finn argued, Seth managed to get himself out of the ring heading up the walkway but stopped first to drop Dom with a pedigree before retreating.

Finn/Damien was still arguing as the show ended. There are cracks in Judgement Day.
