Wrestlemania 2023 — Night 1

This is that weekend when you need to expect the unexpected when you least expect it. both cards are exciting, and it’s hard to make the call about who should win. I know who I would like to see take the win but looking at things on paper, becomes another story.

**MATCH 1 — The opening match tonight is for the United States Championship (Austin chose to enter first) — Austin Theory facing John Cena. Austin playing the heel is so sure of himself. John has had some of his very best matches on the biggest stage. I would love to see John take the win but if it is Austin, will it be a clean win or will he cheat to get it. I just want John to punch him in the face, at least once. Austin just bit John’s ear, (YES you read that correctly) Austin takes the win and it was dirty, a low blow on John.

**MATCH 2 — Men’s Fatal Four-way Tag Team Match — Braun/Ricochet vs Viking Raiders vs Street Profits vs Alpha Academy. My two favourite teams are Braun/Richchet and Street Profits. I have never seen Braun do a frog splash. It was the Street Profits pulling out the win. What great chemistry they have, I love watching them work.

**MATCH 3 — Seth Rollins vs Logan Paul — This has to be a Seth win. they have kept letting Logan get the better of Seth but it can’t happen this time. Both make grand entrances. I did read that Logan’s WWE contract expires after Wrestlemania but it will be interesting to see if they resign him? It has been all Logan so far but Seth keeps himself in all of this. Logan has set up Seth with a Buddy of his dressed in a Prime Drink bottle. Logan splashed his business partner. Seth thought he had the win but how did Logan kick out. Logan Paul just got stomped out, Seth with the win. It was a good match, I have to admit.

**MATCH 4 — 6 Women Tag Team Match with Becky, Lita and Trish Stratus facing Damage Control. Damage Control keeps the ring cut in half so Becky, Trish and Lita can’t make tags. Well, that was a unique move by Becky, Trish and Lita. Got to give the Ref credit for giving this match leeway as needed. That match was a bit of a mess but it was good, wish it had been given a little more time but in the end, it would be Becky, Lita and Trish with the win.

**MATCH 5 — Rey Mysterio facing Dominick. I have become less and less of a fan of this storyline. My gut tells me that Judgement day will come into play but it also that Latino World Order will be around to help out if needed. OMG – really Dom walking to the ring surrounded. Geesh. He even has handcuffs on. (Cory needs to SHUT UP) Rey came out in Snoop Dog’s lowrider. Dom is rubbing his backside after that one. Angie just Slammed dom, YES. Judgement Day showed up but so did Latino Heat. Even some help from Bad Bunny got the well-deserved win. As Phil just said, Dom pushed Rey too far, and something had to give way.

**MATCH 6 — It’s the Smackdown woman’s Championship match between Charlotte facing Rhea Ripley. My gut is telling me that Rhea will pull this one out but Charlotte can hold her own, especially on the big stage. This is a history-making night with Jessica the ref and the announcer Sam tasking their place with Charlotte/Rhea. It is the first time 4 women have taken place in a match of this importance. It’s been a hell of a battle. OMG, what is past the kitchen sink, what does Charlotte need to do to finish this match? It was an extremely physical, hard fight, and dig deep match I have seen in a long time. Congrats to Adelaide native Rhea Ripley.

***Tonight’s attendance is 80, 497

**MAIN EVENT — MATCH 7 — Tag Team Belts are on the line with Sami Zayne/Kevin Owens facing off against The Uso. (these are both tag belts). In my opinion, it’s going to get dirty and be a real fight. The universe will not settle for anything less but Sami/Kevin leaving night one with the belts. Put your seatbelts on because we are going for a ride through hell. I have no clue whatsoever how Kevin/Sami managed to keep kicking out. Phil and I both have ridden the wave through this storyline, agreeing that it was time for it to end. It was hard to hear Michael/Cory when the 3 counts happened.

Congratulations to Kevin Owen/Sami Zayne the new undisputed Tag Team Champions.

** See you tomorrow for night 2 of Wrestlemania.

Originally from Ohio but now call Adelaide, South Australia home. The love of my life Phil recently passed away and I am trying to figure out this new thing called life. Working on getting my Social Media up and running again. Also working on getting more books published. Learning how to trust my instinicts in making decisions is a huge learning curve.
