Tonight from Portland. Joe and Wade are at the announcer’s desk with Mark Nash handling the announcing.
During the post-show from Elimination Chamber, Nick Aldis turned Wrestlemania on its head. Once again, Drew turned things on its head by going after Cody in the chamber, making sure that Randy Orton got the win. Nick was beyond livid when he announced on Friday Night, Drew McIntyre would be defending the title against Cody. Needless to say, that brought Drew to have a screaming fit in Nick’s face about how he is the Champion and he can do whatever he wants. (There are rumours that Drew will lose the title to Cody; they feel the Student vs Mentor works better with Randy getting the win. (#15)
Drew would face Jacob Fatu in a grudge match; I’m not sure who would win. (This would get Drew off-screen for a while, as he will be scheduled to make a film. Highlander. Possible return at SummerSlam — What a pop for Drew would that be? (These are my thoughts on what might happen)
Cody vs Drew for the title. Plenty of time for this match. The bell rang, and Drew walked off. We all know that Drew will stop at nothing to make sure he takes Cody out for good. With Charles Robinson as the Ref you know he will let this go within reason. (announcer’s desk is gone) This has turned into a street fight. Keeping them apart has turned it into a good match. Should have known. Drew pulled Charles in the way so he took the kick. No ref, and it’s a free run. Cody screamed for a Ref, and Dan Engler bolted to the ring. Drew connects with a Claymore, but Cody still kicks out. Drew just knocked out Dan the Ref. Jacob Fatu appeared from the crowd, snatching the chair away and leaving Drew stunned. Cody didn’t miss a beat—he dodged a desperate Claymore, connected with a signature Cody Cutter, and followed up with a thunderous Cross Rhodes. As the original referee, Charles Robinson, barely crawled back into position to count the three, the Portland crowd erupted. Cody Rhodes is now a 3-time Undisputed WWE Champion, and the “Road to 42” has its new North Star.
Randy Orton is on his way to the ring. He talked about how important returning to the Main Event is for him.
Rhea Ripley will have her first face-to-face since winning the Chamber against Jade Cargill. I have been reading that Jade has been rubbing some of the ladies in the locker room the wrong way. Rhea just officially arrived. The setup for this will be interesting. With Bianca not available for the foreseeable future, SmackDown needs a solid anchor in the Women’s division. Rhea is the one to do it.
The Irresistible Celebration: Nia Jax and Lash Legend are celebrating their victory over RHIYO (Rhea Ripley & IYO SKY). They are the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, and this celebration is expected to be a big, boastful segment. Let’s see if they get through this in one piece, or if they get a visit from another tag team. Charlotte/Alexa (The Twisted Queens) are on the way to the ring. Here comes Guilia/Kiana. Charlotte/Alexa heading back to Wrestlemania for a tag title shot.
This officially sets the stage for a massive title clash in Vegas. You have the raw power of Nia and Lash going up against the veteran “royal” dominance of Charlotte and the unpredictable “twisted” edge of Alexa.
#1 Contender’s Match for the WWE Tag Team Titles: A match to determine who will be next to challenge the MFTs (currently the champions). Motor City Machine Guns are on the way to the ring, facing Fraxium in a tag team gauntlet match. You win, you keep going, you lose, you’re out. M.C.M.G eliminated, Los Garza in the ring, pinning Fraxium. Wyatt Sick are on the way to the ring. However, the surprise of the night was the brand-new alliance of Damian Priest and R-Truth. Despite being isolated early on, Priest’s power and Truth’s signature Cena-inspired offence proved too much for Los Garza. With a stereo South of Heaven and Attitude Adjustment, Priest and Truth secured the win, officially becoming the #1 Contenders to face the MFTs on the grandest stage of them all.
Carmelo Hayes continued his dominant run as United States Champion by hosting an open challenge that brought a world-class surprise to the blue brand. El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. from AAA answered the call, bringing a high-flying, hard-hitting Lucha Libre style that caught the champion off guard. Wagner nearly pulled off the upset after a spectacular moonsault and powerbomb sequence, but “Melo” proved why he’s the “Him” of SmackDown. Recovering just in time, Hayes dodged a final aerial assault to hit “Nothing But Net,” securing the pinfall in what was easily one of the most athletic matches of the year.
Johnny Gargano’s open challenge was a display of pure heart, but it hit a brick wall when the “Ruler of NXT,” Oba Femi, stepped through the curtain. Gargano tried to use his speed and veteran instincts to chop the big man down, but Femi’s power was simply overwhelming. Despite several “superkick” attempts and a valiant effort to lock in the Gargano Escape, the match reached a brutal conclusion. Femi caught a mid-air attempt and flattened Johnny with a massive Pop-up Powerbomb, effectively ending the challenge and leaving the veteran laid out in the center of the ring.
