Night 2 brought the noise, closing out SummerSlam weekend in style. Between high-flying ladder match chaos, intense physical wars for intermediate gold, and a main event packed with years of history and tension, the fallout from tonight will be felt across RAW and SmackDown for months to come. Here’s how Night 2 went down.
MATCH 1: WWE Championship No. 1 Contender’s Fatal 4-Way Match: Finn Bálor vs. Sami Zayn vs. Gunther vs. Kevin Owens.
Winner: Kevin Owens.
Commentary / Thoughts: I certainly did not see Kevin returning, let alone winning. I think creative has lost its way with Gunther. You could see a little ring rust there, as Kevin has to learn how to wrestle now, protecting his neck.
MATCH 2: WWE United States Championship, Trick Williams (c) vs. Baron Corbin
Winner: Baron Corbin
Commentary / Thoughts: I did not expect a title change here. Taking time away, you can see it has freshened up Baron. I am hoping that, taking the belt off Trick, they are heading for a fued with Carmelo Hayes. Lil Yachty needs to take a hike.
Match 3: Interim WWE Women’s Championship 5-Way Ladder Match
Chelsea Green vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Jade Cargill vs. Tiffany Stratton vs. Lash Legend
The Setup: Five of SmackDown’s top women fighting to hang the interim belt high above the ring while Rhea Ripley is out.
Result: Chelsea Green seized the chaos, climbed right up, and pulled down the belt to win her first World Championship!
There is no way I saw this one coming. My pick was Charlotte, which would have set up an absolute barnburner with Rhea down the road. But I can completely understand why they put the interim title on Chelsea for now.
She has truly earned it—just look at her career. Chelsea is the ultimate team player in WWE. She takes on every single thing thrown at her without hesitation, turns absolute gold out of whatever she’s given, and makes it work.
Match 4: “Human Monies” on a Pole Match
Danhausen vs. Dominik Mysterio
The Stakes: $100,000 cash in a sack hanging from a pole (the “human monies” Danhausen swiped from The Judgment Day).
Joe Hendry made a surprise appearance, smashing a guitar across JD McDonagh’s back!
Dominik got “cursed” with turnbuckle pyro right to the face while climbing.
Result: Danhausen grabbed the sack of cash off the pole to secure the victory.
This was good for a few giggles. I am not a Danhausen fan, but it was nice to see Dom lose again.
Match 5: WWE Intercontinental Championship Match
Penta (c) vs. Chad Gable
Gable is competing in front of his hometown crowd in Minneapolis, Minnesota, aiming to capture his very first singles championship in WWE.
Key Highlights & Workrate:
Started with mutual respect, a handshake, and crisp chain wrestling.
Penta targeted Gable’s repaired shoulder, including a brutal Mexican Destroyer onto the ring apron.
When Penta went for a second Mexican Destroyer inside the ring, Gable countered right into a deep Ankle Lock.
Result: Chad Gable made Penta tap out to win the Intercontinental Title!
Post-Match Emotional Moment: Total class from Penta, who wrapped the title belt around Gable’s waist himself.
It was a hell of a match—everything you want in a SummerSlam title war. Chad completely overhauled his style to wrestle as El Grande Americano, even learning a whole new way to fight and speaking Spanish. Penta will bounce back, though; he’s amazing. Honestly, I’d love to see Penta team back up with Rey Fenix to go after the Tag Titles.
Match 6: WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match
Roman Reigns (c) vs. Seth “Freakin” Rollins
The Story & Mind Games:
Massive Shield history hanging over the ring. Before the bell, Rollins offered Roman his old Shield vest, but Roman threw it out of the ring to show the past was dead.
Match Highlights:
Absolute war—both men hit each other with everything, including trading Shield-esque powerbombs through the announce table.
Ref bump led to Rollins bringing a steel chair into the ring (referencing the infamous 2014 Shield betrayal). Roman disarmed him and threw the chair away, choosing to fight it out cleanly.
Non-stop finisher counters: Pedigrees, Stomps, Superman Punches, and Spears.
Result: Roman Reigns countered a Stomp into a Spear, then hit a second Spear to get the pinfall and retain the World Heavyweight Championship.
I knew this would be an all-out war, but it almost needed to come to an end before they permanently hurt each other. That subtle nod to their shared history was incredible—Seth leaving his Shield mask in the centre of the ring, sharing that brief fist-raise moment, and Roman standing tall. So many guys have come and gone, but Roman and Seth have stayed, holding the ship steady. Roman might be holding the gold, but after a war like this, my respect for both of them has grown even more.
